Asafo ceremonies and parades were all about displaying the strength, power and unity of the company organizing the festivities. These characteristics were translated into the design of the flags that would be paraded during these occasions. The symbols the Fante associated with power came from subjects as diverse as nature, mythology, and European heraldry. Imported technical innovations, such as cars, ships and planes as well were deemed suitable symbols of power and strength due to their technological superiority. That is why it is not uncommon to find these designs appear on flags. Access to and control of technology were common metaphors used by companies to assert their superiority. This beautiful, stylized airplane refers to the Fante saying: "Like airplanes, we can go anywhere”, a typical challenge issued to rival companies saluting the ability of the owners of the flag to go anywhere without any constraints. Reportedly, the first airplane flew over the coastal shores of Ghana in 1928, introduced by the British authorities.
